Tim Ward of UC Irvine scored with two seconds left Saturday to lift the No. 7-ranked Anteaters to a 7-6 victory over UC Santa Barbara in the second game of the Cal State Long Beach

Earlier in the day, UC Irvine (11-9) lost to No. 1-ranked Stanford (27-0), 14-8. The Cardinal took a commanding 7-1 halftime lead.


The Anteaters play USC at 9:10 a.m. today and will face California at 5 p.m.


Pepperdine 9, Cal State Fullerton 5--Aaron Chasen scored three goals to lead No. 4-ranked Pepperdine to the PCAA victory at Fullerton’s Independence Park.


Mark Monroe scored three goals for the Titans and Al Schade added two.


Pepperdine is 9-0, and 19-7. Cal State Fullerton is 0-10, and 5-13.


San Jose State 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Shawna DiBiaso led the No. 3-ranked Spartans with six kills at San Jose. Susan Herman had six kills for Fullerton.


Fullerton travels to the University of the Pacific Monday for a 7:30 p.m. match.


Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 2, Chapman 0--Paul Hansen deflected a ball off Chapman’s Freddy Tapia with 25 seconds remaining to lead the Mustangs to the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.

Palomar College won its third straight Cypress tournament at Cypress College.


The Comets finished first with 87 3/4 points, and host Cypress (65) was second and Rancho Santiago (40) fifth.


Cypress had three individual winners as Bill Weatherrill (161 pounds), Joey Gillis (170 pounds) and Sean Goodwin (193 pounds) won their divisions. Goodwin recorded his fourth tournament


victory of the season and improved his record to 18-0.


Rancho Santiago’s Tom Crawford won the heavyweight division.
