The Torrance City Council unanimously approved an additional $10,000 for management services for repairing landslide damage on the hillside between Via Corona and Vista Largo. The city-owned
property south of Pacific Coast Highway began to slip in April, 1986, destroying two houses and forcing the city to take emergency measures to prevent further slippage. The additional funds
are needed to continue paying the salary of the project manager, Samuel Johnson, and other consultants. The project will cost the city about $5.2 million. In the past two years, the project
has stripped the city of parks and recreation project funds and depleted the catastrophic insurance reserve and other special funds. City Engineer Richard Burtt said the project is ahead of
schedule by two months. The reconstruction should be completed in November, and the final landscaping should be done by January, he said. MORE TO READ
