A man who robbed a downtown bank of about $1,700 at noontime Monday escaped with the loot when he caught a westbound bus on Broadway, police said.

Police said the man is wanted in connection with a series of at least a dozen San Diego bank robberies. The robber is described as 5-foot-7, about 195 pounds, with reddish-brown curly hair

and green eyes.

Bill Robinson, a police spokesman, said the robber handed a teller a note at the Broadway branch of California Federal. The note read, “I have a gun, give me all your 50s and 20s.” He then

slipped out the back door with the money and fled west, Robinson said.

He caught a bus at 1st Avenue and Broadway, Robinson said, but when police stopped the vehicle the robber had gone.
