Your story of April 23, stating that Larry Wan’s resignation left Malibu’s “quarrelsome political factions more divided than ever,” is not an accurate summation of this aftermath of the

recent Malibu election. In fact, the city is now strongly united behind a slow-growth philosophy and will remain so for at least the next four years (the terms of the three newly elected

council members). Wan’s resignation was merely the result of the defeat at the polls of his former council allies, Missy Zeitsoff and Mike Caggiano, leaving Wan outnumbered four-to-one on

the new council. Politically, the development-minded faction in Malibu now has no place to go after a defeat of its candidates. As realists, they will make peace with the victors. RICHARD M.
