The pin was removed from shortstop Gary DiSarcina’s injured left thumb by Norman Zemel, a hand and wrist specialist, Monday. Trainer Ned Bergert said DiSarcina’s recovery is going as well as
had been hoped. DiSarcina will probably be sidelined the rest of the regular season but could return for the playoffs. DiSarcina joined the Angels on their nine-game Eastern trip and will
begin exercises to rehabilitate his thumb. Zemel placed the pin in DiSarcina’s thumb Aug. 8, after the shortstop had torn a ligament while sliding into second base Aug. 3. DiSarcina has been
running and riding a stationary bike in order to remain fit. The first-place Angels are 11-13 since DiSarcina, batting .317 with only five errors, was injured. MORE TO READ
