“Bacteria Blamed in Deaths of 4 Babies” (Sept. 16) exemplifies the dangers faced by newborns exposed to a known hotbed of resistant infections, the hospital. It is not a reflection on any
single hospital, but simply the result of bacteria-colonizing institutions filled with infected patients. Yet our newest practitioners, members of the state Legislature, have given mothers
the right to expose their babies to these infections for an extra day for absolutely no medical benefit. In fact, the legislators appear to be the only practitioners not held accountable for
explaining the risks of their decisions to patients. It’s nice to know that the Legislature is trying to protect the public from HMOs, but who is going to protect our infants from the
