Five members of a Colorado family developed severe lung infections because they rarely cleaned their indoor hot tub, according to public health officials in that state. All five developed
shortness of breath, fever and night sweats caused by nontuberculosis mycobacteria. The Colorado family did not change the water in their hot tub regularly, and the children did not shower
before entering it. Health authorities said the unwashed children may have introduced the organisms into the tub. * Compiled by Times medical writer Thomas H. Maugh II. MORE TO READ
