Flats that were deemed "at the end of their natural life" have been revamped and refreshed to benefit those most in need. Officials on Harborough District Council (HDC) have spent
around £200,000 to complete the project. The works, on the four properties in Plowmans Yard off Coventry Road in Market Harborough, has seen new kitchens, bathrooms, internal doors, windows
installed by HDC. The one and two bedroom flats were closed in 2022 "due to being at the end of their useful life", according to the council. The "facelift" has also seen
electrical re-wiring and a full redecoration to all the properties. Meanwhile, the communal areas have also been upgraded with a secure door entry system and CCTV. READ MORE: Council issues
update on when it will publish plans for hundreds more homes a year HDC said the £200,000 project has also seen the roof repaired, while there is now improved heating and insulation in the
building too. Completion on the project means the properties are now available for people in need of temporary accommodation, the council said. Cllr Jim Knight, HDC’s cabinet lead for
wellbeing, said: “I am delighted the refurbishment works at Ploughmans Yard are complete. We are actively trying to provide good quality temporary accommodation in Market Harborough and
across Harborough district.” The "facelift" comes after authority recently announced it was buying up to five properties to tackle homelessness in the district. The new homes add
to the council's existing stock of six houses they already own and four they lease. The option of further homes being bought by the council to tackle homelessness has not been ruled out
either, with HDC saying further opportunities are also being explored for other locations across the Harborough district.
