Mystery surrounds what happened after a van was discovered on its side at the base of cliffs - and was nearly washed out to sea. Pictures shared by coastguards showed the van at the bottom of steps at Lizard Point in Cornwall. There are no reports of any injuries but people are being advised to stay clear of the vehicle if they go to Polpeor Cove. According to one eyewitness who was at the scene, emergency services were seen at the location, with the coastguard also in attendance. Fortunately, it was said that the owner of the van was unharmed and managed to get out with his dog before the tide came in. The Lizard lifeboat was also called, along with Porthoustock and Mullion Coastguard Rescue Teams, and cleared up debris in the bay. It is not clear how the van ended up on its side. Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team said its team was paged Thursday morning to a van on its side on the beach at Polpeor Cove. “Together with colleagues at Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team and Devon & Cornwall Police we investigated the scene and made sure no one was in imminent danger. Meanwhile The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station cleared up some associated debris in the bay. Do stay clear of the vehicle if it is still on the beach if you visit.” After the pictures were posted on Cornwall live people wondered at what had happened. One said: At what point did he think to stop driving, it’s pretty clear even before the bend you can’t take your car down there." Another added: " Can't believe he would have tried to drive down there, but you never know!"
