Daniel Iversen is ready to be a number one again after “too many years” just training at Leicester City sucked the fun out of the game. The Danish goalkeeper’s City exit and his free

transfer to Championship side Preston were announced on Tuesday. It ends nine-and-a-half years for Iversen at City. After impressing in spells out on loan, he finally made his first-team

breakthrough in 2022-23, making 17 appearances. But in the two seasons since, he’s not played a single game for City. Last term, he spent a few months on loan at Stoke, but this campaign

he’s not played a single competitive fixture. Last summer, the price-tag set by City saw suitors like Derby put off, meaning Iversen stayed at the club, initially as fourth-choice

goalkeeper. In the end, he was needed as back-up to Jakub Stolarczyk both over December and January, and at the end of the campaign with Mads Hermansen injured and Danny Ward taken out of

the firing line. Now he’s getting ready to start again, and could do so against City in the Championship next season. “I cannot wait to play again,” Iversen told Preston. “I’ve trained for

too many years now, just trained. You get to a point where it’s not fun anymore to just go out and train. “You want to play and you want to be part of a team again. When you’re not playing

you don’t feel part of the team really and I cannot wait to do that here.” By sealing a switch to Deepdale, Iversen is returning to one of his former loan clubs. The 27-year-old had two

spells with North End, winning player of the year in 21-22. “It feels great,” he said. “It’s something I’ve been looking forward to really for a couple of months now. I’ve always seen myself

coming back to Preston again so I’m really happy to be back. “I love it here. It’s the most I’ve been happy. Preston is where I’ve played my best football. “Preston feels like home for me.

Everyone around the club are good people and the fans too. I just love it here so it’s a no-brainer for me to come back.” On social media, Iversen added: “After nine-and-a-half years, it’s

time to say goodbye. Thank you to my team-mates, coaches, staff, and fans for giving me the chance to live my dream of playing football in England. “It’s been an honour to represent this

club and a journey I’ll never forget. Wishing the club and everyone around it all the best.” WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT TRANSFERS FOR CITY THIS SUMMER? CLICK HERE TO HAVE YOUR SAY GET YOUR
