"EVERYONE THOUGHT I WAS INSANE" 17:04, 31 May 2025 A mum "risked everything" and sold her family's home to follow a gut feeling. Mum-of-two Amy Goodman, from
Heswall, was fed up of being unable to "button up her trousers" and went out on a limb, risking everything to launch a clothing brand with the goal of making women feel good. The
47-year-old founded MELYR, a clothing brand designed to help women feel more comfortable, particularly those going through menopause and changes in their bodies. She started the brand with
her husband, Marc Goodman, 52, who was already in the fashion industry. However, it didn't come without its challenges, including risking arguably the "biggest thing" of all,
their family home. Amy, who was formerly a hairdresser, told the ECHO: "I was going through my own personal struggles at the time. I was a size 14 in clothes, which is below the
national average, but when I went to a well-known high street store and couldn't fasten any of the trousers, I left feeling stupidly deflated. "I couldn't shop there anymore
and got more and more annoyed about it. So in COVID, the idea came to start my own clothing brand to help women feel more comfortable. "The idea came from there and snowballed. I wanted
to create things that made women feel great. My husband was already in the menswear industry, but this was still a huge challenge because it was the unknown for him." At the time, Amy,
Marc, and their two children were at a point in their lives where they were "comfortable" and had been living in their home for seven years. Article continues below But, to throw
everything at her new passion project, Amy decided to "risk everything" and put their family home on the market, completely disrupting their family's lives. She said: "We
had developed a home that we had lived in for years; it was around seven years. But I had the idea to sell the house. Our kids were 12 and 14 at the time; they were in school, but I told
Marc I wanted to sell the house. He said, Are you sure?" I told him what I always say: It'll be fine. I've seen it. "What I meant by that is I had seen a vision of things
working out. I had a gut feeling that it would pan out; I felt it in my gut. All you have is your gut feeling, and sometimes you have to feel it and have a lot of courage to do it. "So
we sold our house, we moved out, moved the kids out, and moved into a rented home. Everyone thought we were insane. It was the biggest, hugest risk, but I had a vision. I had a gut feeling
that I wasn't the only woman out there who felt that way, and I had to do something." Article continues below Amy, who is "always one for following a gut feeling," says
they "went for it" and is "so glad" she did. MELYR launched in June 2024, and almost one year on, the business is "thriving". She said: "We've already
got hundreds of reviews; women send me messages, and we get cards in the post. It's so lovely, and I feel so grateful. "It feels like we're part of a community. It has been
such a lovely challenge. We started from absolutely nothing, and nobody knew who we were, to now sending out thousands of orders."
