THE SCHOOL RELEASED A STATEMENT ON ITS WEBSITE ABOUT THE TRAGIC NEWS 10:07, 02 Jun 2025Updated 10:50, 02 Jun 2025 A Liverpool school is closed to hundreds of pupils today after the death of


one of its teachers. Jonathan Scott, a teacher at Archbishop Beck Catholic College in Aintree, died yesterday, according to the school’s headteacher Paul Stirling. Jonathan is listed on the


school’s website as an English teacher and an assistant progress manager for year 7 pupils. He died late last night, according to a statement on the school's site. Due to this, the


school is only open to pupils in year 11, 12 and 13 today from 9.30am to allow people to grieve and process the teacher's death. All other pupils are not required to attend. Anyone who


has childcare issues has been asked to contact the school directly. The school will reopen as normal tomorrow. The school explained the decision in a message on its website from the


headteacher. He said: "It is with deep sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of a valued member of our college community, Mr Jonathan Scott. Mr Scott had served the


Archbishop Beck Community for over 20 years. “Mr Scott was a dedicated and much-loved teacher whose positive impact on students and staff alike will be remembered with great fondness.


Article continues below “His passion for teaching and unwavering support for his students made him a cherished part of our college, and his loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him. “In


light of this tragic news, and to allow our college community the space to grieve and process this loss, the college will be open only to Year 11 and Year 12 and 13 students on Monday June 2


from 9.30am. All students to return as normal on Tuesday 3rd June. “This time will also allow us to ensure appropriate support is in place for students and staff. If your child is required


to attend college due to a vulnerability or child care issues please inform the college – [email protected]. “We understand this may be a difficult time for many, and we are working to


provide the emotional support needed. Further information will be shared in due course regarding any arrangements to celebrate Mr Scott’s life and contributions. “We thank you for your


understanding and support during this difficult time. We apologise for the short notice but Mr Scott passed away late on Sunday June 1.” There have been tributes from parents and former


pupils on Facebook after the news was shared. One said: “Very sad news! Thinking of his family and friends at this sad time.” Another person said: “He was such a lovely English teacher. Such


sad news.” A third person added: “Such a lovely man! So sad.” Article continues below
