TWO PEOPLE ARRIVED AT THE PROPERTY WHILE POLICE WERE THERE 12:37, 02 Jun 2025Updated 15:18, 02 Jun 2025 Police arrested two people after what they found in an "insecure" house.

Merseyside Police officers were called to a house on Garswood Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield on Sunday, June 1. At around 8.25pm, officers arrived at the house after it had been reported to

have been left insecure. They found a total 23 cannabis plants, loose cannabis and other paraphernalia were seized by our specialist Cannabis Cultivation Team (CDT). Two suspected occupants

returned to the house and were arrested before Electricity North West arrived to make the property safe. A 55-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man, both from Ashton-in-Makerfield, were

arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and being concerned in the supply of cannabis. They remain in custody for questioning. Head of the police's Cannabis Dismantling Team Matt

Brown said: “While the number of plants is relatively low, the risk to neighbouring properties was extremely high. The electricity was in a dangerous condition and, as we have seen in the

past, this could easily have led to fire or flood, endangering the lives of those living nearby. Article continues below “Nobody should have to unknowingly live near such a dangerous

location, the likes of which can also attract violent crime to an area. If you suspect that drugs are being grown or sold in your community, let us know and we will take swift action to

reduce the harm to those who live and work in the area.” A police spokesperson said: "Anyone with information on suspected drug production or criminal activity in their community can

contact @MerPolCC on X, or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook. Article continues below "You can also report information via our website:
