THE FILM WAS WELL RECEIVED BY CRITICS WHEN IT WAS RELEASED MOLLY TOOLAN and DAN HAYGARTH Liverpool Daily Post Editor and Regeneration Reporter 23:14, 31 May 2025 A film about John

Lennon's life that was hailed as 'beautiful' is available to watch on Disney+. Released in 2009, 'Nowhere Boy' was the directional debut of Sam Taylor-Johnson and

starred her now-husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson as John. The film is a fictionalised account of John's life depicting his earlier young adult years and how the band was formed with the

creation of his first band, The Quarrymen and its evolution into The Beatles, reports the Express. The film's cast has gone on to have huge successes, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson now

among the favourites to star as the next James Bond. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who plays the role of Paul McCartney, had previously appeared in 'Love Actually' having gone on to star

in many films since. The film's synopsis reads: "The story of John Lennon's childhood and teenage years from 1944 to 1960, his relationship with his Aunt Mimi and his mother

Julia - the two dominant women in the first part of his life; his first meeting with Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison (Sam Bell), their friendship, their love for music, and the birth

of The Beatles." The film was written by Matt Greenhalgh and is based on Julia Baird's (John's half-sister) biography of her half-brother. Dame Kristin Scott Thomas,

Anne-Marie Duff, Sam Bell and Ophelia Lovibond star alongside Taylor-Johnson and Brodie-Sangster. Article continues below The film was well-received. Rotten Tomatoes critics awarded the film

with 81%. The critical summary stated: "Don't expect any musical insights, but this look at John Lennon's early life benefits from its restrained, low-key approach and some

fine acting from Aaron Johnson." One Google reviewer wrote: "This movie was just overall beautiful. It was incredibly well made and had a wonderful aesthetic. Nowhere Boy

definitely evoked many tears as well as made me laugh." An audience reviewer said the film "is the best I have seen about The Beatles" adding that the acting was

"first-rate". Four new films about the Fab Four will be hitting screens soon as well. At the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas in March, Sony Pictures announced it will release

four films about The Beatles in April 2028, with each film to focus on a different band member. Director Sam Mendes confirmed the leading cast at the convention - Irish actors Paul Mescal

and Barry Keoghan will play Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr respectively. London-born Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, while Joseph Quinn, also from the capital, will play George

Harrison. Article continues below Speaking at the convention, Sam called the films the "first binge-able theatrical experience", adding: "I’ve been trying to make a story

about The Beatles for years." It is the first time that Apple Corps Ltd and The Beatles – Paul, Ringo, and the families of John and George – have granted full life story and music

rights for a scripted film. _NOWHERE BOY IS AVAILABLE TO STREAM ON DISNEY+._
