HUGE PLUMES OF SMOKE POURED OUT INTO THE SKY 22:44, 30 May 2025Updated 22:45, 30 May 2025 Firefighters were scrambled after a car set on fire in the centre of Prestwich, Bury, on Friday
night. Images and video of the scene and the response have been widely shared on social media. The red-coloured car - thought to be a hatchback - was captured on fire with huge plumes of
smoke pouring out into the early evening sky. The blaze erupted in the heart of Prestwich on a busy Friday night. Fire crews based in Whitefield were called out to the scene on Bury New Road
at around 8pm on Friday. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were spotted putting the fire out, as police stopped traffic. The car was outside the Istanbul restaurant at the time, near
a bus stop and an entrance to the Longfield Centre. Article continues below Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. Buses, however, were diverted as police cordoned off the road to

couldn't call at Besses o' th' Barn and Prestwich as a result. The road was reopened later. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:
"At around 8pm this evening (Friday 30 May), one fire engine from Whitefield fire station attended a car fire on Bury New Road, Prestwich. "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus
used one hose reel to extinguish the fire. Greater Manchester Police were also in attendance and cordoned the road to make the area safe. "Crews departed after roughly 20 minutes in
attendance." The make and model of the car involved isn't known. North West Ambulance Service didn't attend the incident. No further details have been revealed. Article
