But these police officers brought shame to the uniform when they abused their position of trust for their own sexual gratification. From sexually assaulting children, to groping colleagues and pursuing improper relationships with vulnerable women while on duty, in the last 12 months these police officers' crimes have landed them behind bars. As a judge told one of the disgraced cops: "When police officers commit offences like this or any other sort of offence you undermine every other officer because it damages public trust in the police." DEAN DEMPSTER Depraved Dean Dempster was jailed after he was caught sexually assaulting a girl under 10 during a call to her home. The PC was called to a property in Oldham in 2023, but switched off his body-camera to carry out a sickening attack on the girl. Police later uncovered nearly 3,000 child abuse images on his devices, including 104 of the most serious 'category A' type. Among the images were 'pseudo-images' in which Dempster superimposed his body onto the image of a child so it looked like he was having sex with them. Dempster, 35, of West Didsbury, was jailed for 14 years in November. Jailing Dempster, Judge Stuart Driver KC told him: "The public places its trust in police officers. Your crimes betrayed the public, your colleagues and worst of all a vulnerable young child whom you were pretending to protect." RICHARD MILLS Det Sgt Richard Mills' 18 year career ended in disgrace after he was jailed for 18 months for sexually assaulting two women. A court heard the GMP officer forced their hands onto his crotch while he was on duty. The 42-year-old father-of-two from Rochdale assaulted one victim after telling her his wife was pregnant. The victim labelled Mills a 'f*****g dirty pervert'. Judge David Swinnerton told him: "When police officers commit offences like this or any other sort of offence you undermine every other officer because it damages public trust in the police." MARK ROSEBURY Serving GMP officer Mark Rosebury was jailed after being caught possessing hundreds of indecent images of children. The 38-year-old was found with the sick images after devices were seized from his home and searched. It followed an investigation into possession and distribution of indecent images of children by Lancashire Police's online child abuse investigation team. In September Rosebury, of Earnshaw Road, Bacup, was jailed for 18 months after he admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing extreme images, and one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child. SHAMRAZE ARSHAD Former GMP officer Shamraze Arshad had sex sessions with a suicidal woman while on duty. Arshad, who was based at Longsight police station, met the woman after he and a colleague were called out to her student accommodation in south Manchester when she was threatening to taker her own life in the autumn of 2020. A court heard 'arrogant' Arshad, from Bolton, used his police mobile to find her personal details and began calling her just hours after she had been taken to hospital. The 38-year-old repeatedly asked her to go on a date then 'began an intimate and ultimately sexual relationship with this vulnerable young woman whom he met in crisis'. In June last year, after a four-day trial at Liverpool Crown Court, he was convicted of misconduct in a public office and jailed for four years. JOEL CHOUDHURY PC Joel Choudhury took covert photos of a victim of crime in her own home - and stored naked pictures of a vulnerable teenage girl on his phone. Article continues below Anti-corruption detectives discovered the images on the Lancs Police constable's mobile in May 2023 as part of a separate investigation. The then 44-year-old, from Lytham St Annes, Lancs, was suspended from duty and later charged with three counts of misconduct in public office and one count of making indecent images of a child - relating to the images taken from the vulnerable 16-year-old's phone. In December he was jailed for 16 months and handed a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order after appearing at Manchester Crown Court.
