Nedjo Osmanovic, 35, is seen on CCTV throwing a petrol-soaked towel into his room on June 21 last year. Fortunately, no one was hurt. But £8,000-worth of damage was caused at the leased flat. Osmanovic was caught after the lease holder provided his details to police. He was jailed for three-and-a-half years earlier this week having previously admitted arson being reckless as to whether life is endangered. In footage shared with _Manchester Evening News_, Osmanovic is seen at the door of his flat on Chester Road, Old Trafford. He appears to be holding a full black bin bag. He then runs down the stairs as black smoke comes from the door. Osmanovic was arrested at Salford Royal hospital a month later. He claimed to officers he had intended to end his life. Experts found the fire was started with petrol and said the risk to life was 'minimal' because of the fire alarm, sprinkler system and the fire doors throughout the building. Article continues below Judge Timothy Clayson, sentencing him at Minshull Street Crown Court, said: "You caused a fire by lighting a towel, or similar item, with which you had poured petrol on to. The resulting fire caused significant damage at your flat and obvious risk to others in the building. "You tend to regard yourself as a victim of others actions, and seem to easily fall into dispute with others. You will know that excess drinking will also make your mental health much worse." Osmanovic, of Newbury Avenue, was jailed for three-and-a-half years.
