Thanks for telling me I was brave — I was one of those single parents, no child support, who worked and put herself through college and grad school. With 2 kids. And jobs, lots of jobs. And
stress. I didn’t feel brave, just did what needed to be done. Just wanted to say thx for contextualizing it as being brave. It was more persistance and no damn way I wasn’t going to do this!
But I’ll pretend you are right and I was brave :) But I’m writing because I don’t think of depression and anxiety as mental illness. It is the result of luck of the draw in our neurological
neurotransmitier lottery. You learned that with getting better from anti-d’s. I took my raw data from my genetics testing at 23andme and had it further analyzed for mood/neurotransmitter
mutations. It was eye-opening. I do not have optimal levels of dopamine and serotonin and CBD receptors. I am at risk for SAD. (No one had to tell me this, take away the sun and I don’t
function.) However, I am also, genetically, not a good candidate for SSRI’s, anti-d’s. etc. This is the second time my genetics have come back with that info. I have never taken any because
I dislike them for a lot of reasons, but they work for you and that is beautiful. As it is for whomever else they work for. I am balancing my serotonin and dopamine with adaptagenics and
hormones and vitamins. For example, dopa mucuna works for increasing dopamine. I get it at the health food store, amazon has it also. For me, one and only one is needed and I take it 3 days
on, 3 days off. Ashwaganda for me and also working on figuring out the CBD as my genetics also measured I was low in that (yes, we do have a separate nervous system for that, discovered
recently — the endocannabinoid system) I don’t like the phrase mental illness — it sounds so old school, so like you need a therapist. I’m hoping soon all we will do is get the genetics done
and and AI will spit out a protocol for our particular mutations. I may get depressed but I am very much a techno optimist and I believe the future of medtech will be awesome — it already
is heading there in so many ways. And I can’t leave without mentioning how VR (virtual reality) is helping so many in the area of anxiety/depression. VR actually changes us physiologically
