After declaring Triple Talaq as unconstitutional there is a big debate going in India to form a Uniform Civil Code for all the people. But people are also opposing it mainly because of

misconception about UCC. Common Indians are asking questions like: * Will there be same marriage rituals for all religions? * Will there be a common method of praying to god for all

religions? * Does UCC hurts sentiments of a specific religion and supports that of other? * Will it be illegal to practice rituals after implementing UCC? The answer to all these questions

is ‘NO’. Uniform Civil Code has nothing to do with rituals and religion. UCC is only about common human rights and gender equality for all people living in India. The real question we should

be addressing is: If our nation is secular then why the law is not secular? Why different laws for different religions? According to article 44 of Indian Constitution, every citizen of the

country has equal rights. But this doesn’t reflect in our practical law. There are different laws of inheritance, guardianship, and adoption for different religions. When a woman is divorced

and she looks to the court for justice, she is asked for her religion and justified on that basis. Meaning that laws are different for Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh women even when they share the

common territory of India. UCC is being opposed because people are misinterpreting it and some political parties are misguiding people for their vote bank. There is already a uniform civil

code in many countries like US, UK, France but this has never resulted in a conflict between religions. Then how can it create a chaos in India? The fact is that UCC is already practiced in

Goa. Instead of just opposing it we must understand what UCC is about. It’s only about five things: * Marriage * Divorce * Guardianship * Inheritance * Adoption None of these have anything

to do with rituals and religious practices. What exactly the laws will be, haven’t yet been formatted. This will be done by common consensus of all people from all backgrounds. Law

commission of India has released a questionnaire to be filled by all people and laws will be made after analyzing the answers. You can download this questionnaire from here. We all

understand that there should be same parameter of justice for everyone and there should be no disparity between man and woman. There is a strong voice arousing from within our country for

the formation of UCC. This time religion should not come in the path of gender equality and social justice. One last thing I would like to conclude is that there will be options in UCC

whichever you want to follow. And if it is constitutionalized states will have to implement it. Share this article as much as you can to educate people on this misinterpreted issue.
