than $30,000.
That's largely due to a generous donation by the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and mining giant Glencore.
The unit is vital for providing infants with a purpose-built examination bed, according to Mrs Hordern.
"It includes a warmer, and special monitoring devices, and can be stocked with other equipment to provide oxygen, needed for resuscitation, in treating critically-ill babies," she said.
"This life-saving equipment is available to be used daily if required.
"So, it's a fantastic gesture [the donation].
"We already had one in maternity, but now we have another in the Emergency Department (ED).
"The equipment is all here, in the same area, which will maximise the outcome for the baby.
"The Humpty Dumpty Foundation and Glencore have made a big difference to our ED.
"And, it's terrific to get this kind of support.
"These days, we seem to be relying more on donations, from the likes of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, Glencore and BHP, among others, as well as our own Muswellbrook District Hospital
Auxiliary.
"Now, thanks to this latest 'gift', we have the opportunity to provide the best possible care to babies."
Providing best possible care to babies To date, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation has raised more than $70 million and, in 2018, it purchased close to 450 pieces of medical equipment for
Paediatric Wards, Neonatal Units, maternity and emergency departments.
The organisation also provides apparatus for approximately 20,000 children (0- 18 years) who are in hospital on any given day.
On average in Australia, one-in-five babies will need medical intervention at birth.
"Glencore's support of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and the local communities in which they operate is immeasurable," Humpty Dumpty Foundation founder and executive chairman Paul Francis OAM
said.
"Since 2005, Glencore has provided almost $700,000 to help us purchase much-needed gear for 40 hospitals across NSW.
"Their support of families in Muswellbrook, through the provision of the Panda Neonatal Resuscitaire Unit, means children have access to the latest life-saving medical equipment."
