ABSTRACT A SEARCH for a reliable physiological index to evaluate the comfort of summer clothing was begun during the Second World War and is still being continued. Many indices have been tried for this purpose1; but all these can at best reveal significant differences between the clothed and the nude state, or between two grossly different types of clothing. In a preliminary investigation2 this fact was confirmed.
