ABSTRACT LARGE numbers of turkey poults1 and ducklings2 died on British farms in 1960 as a result of consuming groundnut (_Arachis hypogaea_) meal imported from Brazil. Afterwards, outbreaks of disease associated with the feeding of Brazilian groundnut meal were reported in cattle3, pigs4, and sheep (Buxton, J. C., personal communication). More recently it has been shown that some samples of groundnut products from a number of other producing countries are toxic to animals5.
