ABSTRACT MANY investigators have established that changes occur in the structure of enzymes and other proteins during development. For example, Cahn _et al._ have shown changes in the isoenzymes of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH)1, and Körber was the first to recognize that foetal haemoglobin is more resistant to alkali than maternal haemoglobin2.
