Access through your institution Buy or subscribe The Future Leaders Programme (FLP) is an initiative by the British Dental Association (BDA) aimed at equipping aspiring dental students to
pursue leadership roles in dentistry with the skills, knowledge, and networks required to drive systemic change in the dental profession. Through a blend of face-to-face leadership training,
live webinars, and mentorship opportunities with senior committee chairs, participants gain invaluable insights into governance, policy, research, education, public relations, and media.
The programme not only provides a comprehensive understanding of these domains but also inspires and empowers individuals to begin their journeys as future leaders in dentistry. Embarking on
the FLP has proven to be a transformative milestone in my journey as a third-year BDS student deeply committed to public health dentistry. My decision to join the programme was driven by a
strong desire to better understand the systemic challenges facing dental public health in the UK and to develop the leadership skills necessary to address them effectively. I saw the FLP as
a unique opportunity to transform my ambitions into actionable insights, particularly in tackling disparities in dental care access and advocating for NHS contract reforms to support my
