After a very successful and largest ever BARDES scientific meeting in Liverpool 2022, organisers are excited to announce that the next BARDES meeting is scheduled for 9-10 November at the

Grosvenor Glasgow Hotel, in Glasgow's vibrant West End. The British Alliance of Researchers in Dental Education and Scholarship (BARDES) was established to connect and support dental

education researchers and scholars to deliver an evidence base that informs the future delivery of exceptional dental education. One of its objectives is to support the growth of the dental

education research discipline through active outreach and the development of early career colleagues. As part of realising this objective BARDES is running a workshop aimed at novice dental

education researchers immediately before the conference. The workshop will take place on the afternoon of 9 November and will be free to any novice researcher registered to attend the

conference. The workshop will be supported by members of the NIHR ClinEdR Incubator and will aim to support researchers in developing and refining their research questions and subsequent

funding bids. BARDES are also offering the opportunity for Novice Education Researchers to present their work in the form of a five-minute/five slide presentation to a friendly and

supportive audience. Abstracts are welcomed from undergraduates, and any colleague up until the level of post-doc (in education research). Any colleague who is post-doc in another research

discipline but who is starting out in educational research is welcome also. Presentations need not be of completed work - they can include a research idea or projects partly completed.

BARDES aim to provide support and mentorship in the manner of a 'critical friend'. The main event on Friday 10 November 2023 titled 'Recognising and Supporting Authentic

Learning in a Changing World' hosted by the new President-elect Dr Vivian Binnie, will delve into the pressing topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and its profound influence on

various facets of dental education, including assessment. The morning session features Professor Luke Dawson from the University of Liverpool with his captivating plenary lecture, titled

'I Got 51%, Now Let Me Treat Your Mother!' Dr Caitlin Bentley, a Lecturer in AI Education at King's College London, will share her insights and experiences in shaping the

future of AI through education. Professor Al Dowie, an expert in medical ethics and law from the University of Glasgow, will wrap up the morning by delivering a thought-provoking plenary

lecture, addressing some of the complex ethical issues associated with AI in the field of dentistry. Throughout the conference, there will be interactive workshops on AI. Additionally,

delegates are invited to participate by submitting abstracts for verbal presentation sessions. Detailed information on registration and abstract submission guidelines can be found at
