Karnataka went to polls today with a voter turnout of about 70 per cent. The election drama though seems far from over at least if one goes by the exit polls. While India Today-Axis exit
poll has placed its bets on the incumbent Congress Party, Times Now-Chanakya has predicted a clear mandate for the BJP. Here is a quick glance at the numbers allotted to the three parties –
Congress, BJP and JDS — by various exit polls. The Times Now-VMR exit poll has given 94 seats to the BJP and 97 to the Congress party. It has predicted that the former Chief Minister HD
Kumaraswamy’s JDS will clinch 28 seats. In its second exit poll, Times Now has predicted radical numbers for the BJP, that is, 120 seats. The Congress has got mere 73 seats and the JDS has
been reduced to 26 seats in the Times Now-Chanakya exit poll – which came out much later. India Today-Axis My India is the only exit poll to predict that the Congress party in Karnataka will
cross the majority mark. It has given 106-118 seats to the Congress. The BJP has got 79-92 seats and the JDS has got a mere 22-30 seats in the India Today exit poll. Rajdeep Sardesai did
mention that their survey has found the JDS has not been able to put up a good show in the old Mysore region. The NewsX-CNX exit poll is in favour of the saffron party. It has predicted
102-110 seats to the BJP and 70-78 seats to the Congress party. The JDS is set to get 35-39 seats according to their survey. Arnab Goswami’s Republic exit poll was the first one to give a
clear-cut majority to the BJP. It has predicted 95-114 seats for the BJP and 73-82 seats to the Congress party. Kumaraswamy’s party would get something between 36-40 seats in Karnataka,
according to the Republic-Jan Ki Baat exit poll. Karnataka has 224 Assembly seats and 112 is the majority mark. Notably, the election on two seats of Bengaluru – Rajrajeshwari Nagar and
Jayanagar assembly seats has been deferred by the Election Commission. The election in Rajrajeshwari Nagar will now be held on May 28 and the results will be declared on May 30.
