NICE has this week launched a consultation on how to create a better evidence and data gathering system for the NHS. The consultation invites people and organisations to contribute to the development of a process that will provide confidence assurances about the value and integrity of health and social care information. The NHS Evidence project, which is due to start in April, was first announced in Lord Darzi’s Next Stage Review of the NHS to provide easy access to a comprehensive evidence base for everyone in health and social care who makes decisions about treatment or the use of resources. Dr Gillian Leng, Chief Operating Officer for NHS Evidence, said: “In this age of internet access to multiple sources of information, a robust process of accreditation will ensure practitioners, managers and the public can easily identify reliable sources of guidance and recommendations for practice. ‘This consultation is an important opportunity for professionals and lay people to inform the new process, based on international best practice, and to ensure that in future NHS Evidence can help them identify the most reliable sources of information.’
