The Cavell Nurses’ Trust charity is urging people to help support members of the profession “in crisis” to get involved in its new #10kForNurses campaign. The campaign aims to raise £10,000
during the tenth month of the year – October – by encouraging people to do a 10k challenge of their choice. > “We’re taking more and more calls from nurses who desperately > need our
help” > > Victoria Lewis The charity – which supports nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants experiencing personal or financial hardship – said it was “striving to meet a huge
increase in calls for help” in the first half of 2017. As previously reported by _Nursing Times_, the charity that supports both current and retired nurses said it had seen a “shameful” rise
in the number in crisis and desperate for help. It has seen a 32% increase in calls in the first half of this year. In the first six months of 2016 the charity received 891 enquiries, but
that shot up to 1,170 in the first six months of 2017. Victoria Lewis, community fundraising manager, said: “The hardship that nurses often face is shameful and we’re taking more and more
calls from nurses who desperately need our help. “It’s great that so many are able to turn to us for support, but we can only help them with the aid of our fantastic supporters,” she said.
“Our #10kForNurses campaign is a practical and fun way for everyone to show they care and give something back to the nursing professionals that so deserve our care and support,” she noted.
“There’s something for everyone,” she said. “You can run, walk, swim, row, cycle or do something less active like baking 10,000 calories worth of cakes! It really doesn’t matter what your
10k is.” > “Nurses are facing countless challenges at the moment” > > Lily Parham She added: “We’ve had a great response to the campaign so far – and lots of creativity – but we
need more people to join in the fun and help us be here for nurses.” The charity highlighted that it was not just members of the public who were getting involved. Lily Parham, a student
nurse at King’s College, London is supporting the campaign by running 10k in October with some friends. She said: “Nurses are facing countless challenges at the moment, inside and outside
the hospital. We want to be part of the message being sent by Cavell Nurses’ Trust that says ‘you are not alone, we will stand together.’” With training well underway, Ms Parham and her team
are squeezing their running around 12 hour nursing shifts and assignment deadlines, but remain determined to help support fellow nursing professionals in need. The charity’s website has
