several House Committees for the 102nd General Assembly that reflect his experience with managing budgets in both the private and public sectors. Nearly 4,000 bills have been filed for the

new legislative session and the Illinois House of Representatives is set to begin holding committee hearings next week to start the process of evaluating the newly filed bills. Rep. Murphy

has been appointed to the following committees: Appropriations-General Services; Appropriations-Higher Education; Financial Institutions; Insurance; State Government Administration; as well

as Transportation: Vehicles & Safety. “I’m eager to get the committee process going and bring my experience in budget management to the appropriations committees I will be serving on,”

said Murphy. “We have many issues facing the state right now, but the impact of Covid-19 has made getting the state’s finances in order and rejuvenating our economy more important than ever.

I’m looking forward to working with my committee colleagues on both sides of the aisle and hope we will be able to find consensus that will move Illinois forward.” FIND OUT WHAT'S

HAPPENING IN SPRINGFIELDFOR FREE WITH THE LATEST UPDATES FROM PATCH. Murphy played an important role in bipartisan economic and job creation reforms that passed in 2019. In his recent budget

proposal, Governor Pritzker proposed taking away many of those reforms. However, as Murphy referenced, he is hopeful the need to get the economy going will lead to more bipartisanship among

legislators that not only preserves the 2019 reforms but leads to more. The views expressed in this post are the author's own. Want to post on Patch? Register for a user account.
