Yiru Sun chose to turn heartache into heroism on Saturday. The New York City-based insurance executive called off her wedding after a dispute over the prenuptial agreement two months ago,
according to CBS New York. Set to lose an $8,000, non-refundable deposit for her Upper East Side reception at the Harold Pratt House, Sun decided to repurpose the lavish celebration as a
luncheon for 60 needy children and their families, the _New York Post_ reported. Revealing only to guests that she didn’t want to sign an agreement she was uncomfortable with, Sun told CBS,
“I all the sudden thought about, maybe I can just convert it to a lunch party for kids.” Wearing her would-be wedding gown for the pre-Mother’s Day get-together, the mom-of-one and Princeton
graduate posed happily with her guests. The entire soiree – which included face-painting and balloons – was organized with help from the Salvation Army and Inwood House, according to CBS.
“Although I cannot be the princess of my wedding day, all these kids they can have the princess or prince feeling today and I felt very happy about that,” she explained to CBS, noting that
the party eased her emotions over the canceled nuptials. The many children – who were dressed to the nines – were appreciative of Sun’s graciousness, including 10-year-old Kimberly Gil, who
told the _Post_, “It’s special because this lady canceled a special day for her family and herself just for little kids to have fun.”
