A Denham Springs police officer who was struck by a vehicle is expected to make a full recovery, the department said. Cpl. Brandon Ashton was on foot trying to make contact with another person on foot on Interstate 12 eastbound near mile marker 14, the department said Friday. During the chase, the fleeing person ran into traffic, and Ashton was struck by a vehicle attempting to avoid the person. Ashton was taken to a hospital and was released Friday night, the department said. He has worked on the uniform patrol team for four years. "I want to thank everyone for reaching out and praying for our officer," Denham Springs Police Chief Rodney Walker said. "Please continue to pray for him and his family right now."
