Attorney General Eric Holder is expected to announce long-awaited updates to the Justice Department's racial profiling guidelines this week, The Washington Post reports.
The Obama administration has been working on the revisions for nearly five years. They will reportedly expand on President George W. Bush's 2003 ban on racial profiling, which did not apply
to national security investigations. The new guidelines will also ban profiling based on religion, national origin, and sexual orientation.
However, the Transportation Security Administration will reportedly be exempt from following the guidelines, as will parts of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. And local police are only
expected to use the revisions as "guidance," officials said.
