The West Australian Continental Coal says it has received Kenyan government permission to take part in coal exploration and development of the country's Mui coal basin, 180km northeast
of Nairobi. Continental says it will now submit for approval a detailed technical and financial proposal for the exploration and development of coal deposits within the Mititu, Mwingi East
and Mwingi Central districts of Kenya. "We are extremely pleased to have been one of a select group of international coal mining companies short-listed by Kenya's Ministry of
Energy to submit a proposal to explore for coal in such a highly prospective and strategically located coal basin," Continental executive director Jason Brewer said in a statement.
Continental said it would meet with the Ministry of Energy in Kenya in February, ahead of submitting its final technical and financial proposal. The Ministry of Energy has explored for coal
in the Mui basin since 1999 and conducted surface geological mapping, geophysical surveys, exploration drilling, detailed coal quality analyses and resource evaluation. GET THE LATEST NEWS
