ROBERT EDWARDSThe West Australian Perth Cup-winning trainer Shane Edwards will front Racing and Wagering WA stewards tomorrow over an assault on former employee and track rider John Anderson

at his Belhus stables. Edwards, who has won the Karrakatta Plate, landed his maiden Perth Cup win with Guest Wing at Ascot last Saturday. Stewards want to interview Edwards over him using

an "imitation mobile phone electrical contrivance" in his assault on Anderson on November 8 last year. The 36-year-old trainer pleaded guilty to the assault in the Midland

Magistrate's Court last month and was fined $900 and given a spent conviction for the assault and possession of a prohibited weapon. It is alleged Anderson admitted in a text message to

Edwards to kicking one of the trainer's thoroughbreds. Stewards fined Edwards $1000 for treating Guest Wing on the morning of the cup with the non-prohibited substances Gastrozol and

Lubrysin. Gastrozol is a stomach ulcer treatment and Lubrysin is a joint lubricant. Under the rules of racing, trainers must notify stewards of any medication to a horse on race day. Chief

steward John Zucal said a security guard had reported the treatment by Edwards' stable staff to stewards. The trainer was at Ascot trackwork when the treatments were administered. Zucal

said stewards had decided not to scratch Guest Wing from the Perth Cup because of the innocuous nature of the treatment. ·Jockey Troy Turner has opted not to ride at Ascot on Saturday and

will delay his return to the saddle for a fortnight after he was concussed in a fall from Arc Naton at Tuesday's Lark Hill trials. GET THE LATEST NEWS FROM THEWEST.COM.AU IN YOUR INBOX.
