According to a new study, smokers are even more vulnerable to COVID 19. The study was conducted by King's College London and published in the journal Thorax. It examined the data from
March to April which included 2.4 million people. Out of these, 11 per cent of people were smokers. As per the study analysis, smokers were 14 per cent more at risk of developing common
COVID symptoms. These people were 29 per cent more likely to report more than five symptoms and 50 per cent more likely to report more than 10 symptoms. All these findings clearly show that
smokers are more at risk of suffering from a wide range of COVID-19 symptoms than non-smokers. More symptoms are related to more severe illness. As per the study, smokers are two times more
likely to be hospitalised than non-smokers and need ICU care and mechanical ventilation. These people might even face long term breathing issues, cough and shortness of breath even after
recovering from the infection.
