Uddhav Thackeray is an Indian politician born on July 27, 1960 as the youngest son of politician and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and his wife Meena Thackeray. He studied at Mumbai's

Balmohan Vidyamandir and graduated from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art in Mumbai with photography as his main subject. In 2002, Thackeray entered into politics as campaign incharge of

Shiv Sena in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections where the party did quite well. In 2003, he was appointed as executive president of the party. Uddhav Thackeray took over as

chief editor of party mouthpiece Saamana (a daily Marathi-language newspaper published by Shiv Sena) in 2006 and resigned before becoming the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 2019. The

Shiv Sena was left in splits when his cousin Raj Thackeray quit the party in 2006 to form his own political party named Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. After the death of his father Bal

Thackeray in 2012, Uddhav was elected as Shiv Sena president in 2013 and led the party. Under his leadership in 2014, Shiv Sena joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in

Maharashtra. Later Shiv Sena broke away from NDA in 2019 and joined United Progressive Alliance (UPA). To form the government in Maharashtra with Uddhav Thackeray as the chief minister, the

party made a sub alliance called Maha Vikas Aghadi. A rebellion in the Shiv Sena and a Supreme Court ruling, left Thackeray no choice but to submit his resignation as Maharashtra chief

minister. He decided to step down as both CM and member of the Legislative Council (MLC).
