Former San Diego Mayoral candidate and Assembly member Nathan Fletcher, along with veterans from all service branches, gathered Wednesday to endorse Rep. Scott Peters‘ bid for re-election in

November. Fletcher, a Marine combat veteran, described Peters as an “independent voice” and “problem-solver” who cares about Americans who have served. He said Peter’s opponent, Republican

Carl DeMaio, “cannot be trusted to look out for those who wear the uniform. “What we need in the United States Congress is people who are problem solvers,” he said. Fletcher spoke in front

of the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center in Balboa Park, and was joined by Peters and veterans of the Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army and Coast Guard. Peters, a Democrat and member of the

House Armed Services Committee, noted that some 220,00 veterans live in the San Diego area, and the 52 District that he represents is home to seven military installations. “I’ve made it a

priority to ensure that America keeps its promises to veterans,” Peters told the group. He said afterward that Armed Services is one of the most bipartisan Congressional committees and that

he and Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Republican, work closely on issues affecting San Diego. Earlier Wednesday, Peters received the endorsement of the 4D PAC, a center-left political-action

committee that “supports candidates who stand for a globally engaged America… backed by the world’s strongest military.” It was previously known as VETPAC. “Congressman Scott Peters

represents everything 4D PAC is about,” said PAC President Jim Arkedis. “In only one term in office, he’s established himself as a leading voice for reasonable defense policies on the Armed

Services committee and has lead the effort to help vets find quality jobs upon their transition to civilian life.” The 52nd District covers much of central San Diego County including Poway,

Coronado and large portions of the City of San Diego.
