ALASKA VA HEALTHCARE SYSTEM The Alaska VA Healthcare System opened in 1992 at 2925 DeBarr Road in Anchorage, Alaska, as an outpatient clinic. Initially the clinic offered primary care,

mental health services, specialty care, radiology, and audiology. In 2010 the Anchorage clinic moved to its current location at 1201 North Muldoon Road and expanded its ability to provide

services including pharmacy, laboratory and pathology, orthopedics, telehealth services, and numerous social programs. A Joint Venture was developed as a sharing agreement in 1999 between

the Anchorage clinic and the Joint-Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) base, with a link walkway between the clinic and the JBER hospital opened to Veterans in 2012. The Fairbanks location also

has a sharing agreement with Bassett Army Community Hospital, Fort Wainwright and the Juneau clinic location has one with the U.S. Coast Guard. The number of our community-based outpatient

clinics have grown over the years. The Fairbanks location opened in 1995, followed by the Kenai location in 2001. The Juneau location became an official VA space in 2014, previously working

from the U.S. Coast Guard location from 2008. In 2009 the Mat-Su Valley location was opened to serve Veterans in the Wasilla and Palmer areas. Most recently the Homer location opened in

2020. Today, the Alaska VA Healthcare System provides world-class health care to more than 38,000 Veterans in the state of Alaska. Learn more about the history of the VA
