U.S. Air Force Veteran Jerry Rowe has immortalized the story of Sahuarita through the pages of his self-authored book. Rowe donated a copy of "A History of Sahuarita" to Mayor Tom

Murphy, ensuring a treasured glimpse into the town's past will be preserved for future generations. Rowe, who served during the Vietnam era, was moved to create the book in 2015 after

noticing a significant gap in the documented history of Sahuarita.  "I went to the library to try to find a book on the history of Sahuarita, but there wasn’t one," Rowe recounted.

"So I said, ‘Well, I’ll write one.’ It’s important for the community to have this history." The book discusses Sahuarita’s beginnings, its development through the 20th century,

and the lives of the individuals who contributed to its growth. Rowe compiled the book by conducting interviews, scouring archival records, and exploring the town’s notable locations to

piece together its story. Mayor Murphy expressed his gratitude for Rowe’s dedication and contribution.  "This book is not just a collection of facts — it’s a bridge to our

heritage," Murphy said. "We’re grateful to Mr. Rowe for taking the time and care to preserve Sahuarita’s story." The donated copy of "A History of Sahuarita" will be

kept at the Sahuarita Town Hall, while plans are in place for digital versions to be made available in local libraries and schools. Rowe hopes his work will encourage residents to learn

more about their hometown and appreciate its rich history. "There’s so much history here that people just don’t know," he said. "Now they’ll have a chance to discover

it." For Rowe, as a Veteran who has traveled and lived in various places, preserving Sahuarita’s history is a way to give back to a community he holds dear. His effort joins the ranks

of other local historians and educators dedicated to keeping the past alive for future generations.
