31 May 2025 Former Inter Milan president Ernesto Pellegrini has regrettably passed away at 84, just ahead of the club’s momentous Champions League final against PSG. From 1984 to 1995,
Pellegrini led Inter to noteworthy achievements including a Serie A title and two UEFA Cup victories. Pellegrini's association with Inter began in 1979 when he reached out to the
then-chairman Ivanoe Fraizzoli to express his interest in joining the club. The esteemed former president was honoured with a place in Inter's Hall of Fame back in 2020, commemorating a
time of prosperity for the club which included signing footballing legends such as Lothar Matthaus, Jurgen Klinsmann and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reported
that Pellegrini died on Saturday morning at approximately 8am. Inter Milan took to social media to pay homage to Pellegrini with a heartfelt tribute, expressing their mourning and extending
sympathies to his family, reports the Mirror. "President Ernesto Pellegrini has left us," the club announced. "For eleven years, he led Inter with wisdom, honour and
determination, leaving an indelible mark on the history of our club." They added: "FC Internazionale Milano and all the Nerazzurri fans gather around his family." To show
respect, Inter players will don black armbands for their fixture against PSG in Munich on Saturday night. As they approach one of their most crucial matches in recent times, Inter Milan
stand on the precipice of clinching their fourth Champions League title, having already defeated one of the tournament favourites, Barcelona. It's been a decade and a half since their
last victory in the competition, when Jose Mourinho led them to a 2-0 triumph over Bayern Munich. Article continues below Their rivals, PSG, are vying for their maiden Champions League win.
