One of the highlights of the upcoming Aero India would be the flight of the B-1B Lancer bomber. A B-1B Lancer heavy bomber, of the 28th Bomb Wing based out of Ellsworth Air Force Base in
South Dakota, will perform a fly-by. The B-1B Lancer, a supersonic heavy bomber, is a truly remarkable aircraft, capable of carrying out missions worldwide from its bases in the United
States, as well as from forward deployed locations, the US Consulate General Chennai said. The bomber carries the largest conventional payload of both guided and unguided weapons in the US
Air Force and is considered the backbone of America’s long-range bomber force. “US participation in Aero India 2021 reflects our increasingly close bilateral defence ties and our shared
vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” said Don Heflin, US Chargé d’Affaires. During the last edition of the air show in 2019 the US’s B-52 Stratoforest made an appearance for the
first time. The inaugural fly past of the show concluded with the Boeing B-52 Stratoforest flying over the air base. The American B-52 Stratoforest long range, sub sonic, jet powered
strategic bomber has been in service with the US Air Force since 1955 and is expected to serve into 2050. The B-52 did not touch down at the base after the fly past.
