Home Fashion Bollywood wardrobe Bollywood Wardrobe Devika Tripathi on November 7, 2020 Nandita Das is one of the most prolific actors and directors in the Indian cinema. The actress, who is
known for her effortless acting and meticulous directing, has acted in over 40 feature films including _ Fire_ (1996), _ Earth_ (1998), _ Before the Rains_ (2007), and _ Kannathil
Muthamittal_ (2002) among others. The actress also made a debut as a director with _ Firaaq_ (2018) and her directorial venture, _ Manto_ (2018) was highly appreciated at the Cannes Film
Festival. Speaking about her Cannes journey, the actress quite regularly graces the film festival either as a jury or because of her significant movies. Apart from representing the Indian
cinema at the prestigious film festival, the actress also gives us stunning traditional moments at the Cannes Film Festival. Over the years, the actress has impressed us with her simple
traditional outfits and unlike other actresses, Nandita Das' Cannes wardrobe is mostly understated. As it is her fashion is graceful and particularly highlighted by earthy and pastel
tones but at Cannes Film Festival, where sometimes fashion tends to take over cinema, Nandita Das has kept it natural so far. However, at the same time, with the Cannes Film Festival as a
platform, she has often promoted traditional handloom and mostly sarees. Speaking about sarees, she even revealed in an interview to the Hindustan Times [1] that she was inspired by her
mother to drape sarees and that any celebratory occasion is an excuse to wear a saree. Born on 7 November 1969, today on Nandita Das' birthday, we are going to talk about her four
favourite picks from Cannes Film Festival. COURTESY: NANDITA DAS' INSTAGRAM NANDITA DAS' PINK SAREE Nandita Das' directorial venture, _ Manto_ was officially selected at the
Cannes Film Festival and for the world premiere of _ Manto_ at Cannes 2018, Nandita Das opted for an elegant Anavila saree. She looked a class apart and even twinned with Nawazuddin
Siddique, who portrayed Manto's character and wore a pink jacket for the occasion with his black trousers set. Speaking about Nandita Das, the seasoned actress draped a cotton stripe
organza saree, which we thought was worth an investment. It was an absolute airy and lightweight saree, which the actress paired with a half-sleeved pink blouse. She carried a silver clutch
purse with her. Her makeup was minimally done and the wavy softly-curled tresses completed her saree look. COURTESY: NANDITA DAS' INSTAGRAM NANDITA DAS' SILVER SAREE Nandita Das
was all-smiles as she posed with actress Salma Hayek at the Cannes. Salma Hayek had previously introduced Nandita Das at the 58th Cannes Film Festival in 2005 at the opening ceremony. While
in 2005, she opted for a red saree, for the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Nandita Das selected a contemporary saree. She wore a silver tissue saree with a subtly striped border and teamed it
with a sleeveless black blouse, which contrasted yet went well with her saree. The actress spruced up her look with a silver metallic choker, bracelet, and silver danglers. She wore a light
pink lip shade and soft smoky eye makeup. The impeccable bun rounded out her traditional look. NANDITA DAS' RED SAREE When she was introduced by Salma Hayek, for that special occasion,
Nandita Das opted for an Anuradha Vakil saree, the designer who designed Sonam Kapoor Ahuja's wedding ensemble too. It was a simple brick-red saree with intricate patterns on the pallu
and gold zari border. She paired her saree with a matching half-sleeved blouse. Nandita also elevated her look with stunning jewellery. She wore an elaborately-done neckpiece, traditional
temple-inspired earrings, and a sleek maangtikka - all crafted in gold. The actress wore a light pink lip shade, dark kohl with eye shadow, and a red bindi to enhance her look. The
middle-parted mogra-adorned bun accentuated her traditional look. NANDITA DAS' YELLOW SUIT While most of the Indian actress wouldn't even think of traditional suits at Cannes Film
Festival, Nandita Das made a strong case for it back in 2013. For a Cinefondation Photocall, Nandita who was a part of the short films jury, wore a striking yellow suit. Her suit was simple
and she looked gorgeous in her ensemble that was crafted out of silk fabric. Her outfit consisted of yellow kurta and matching pyjamis, and she teamed her suit with a sheer lightweight
dupatta. Nandita Das also wore light golden sandals. Her makeup was light and highlighted by a red bindi. The side-parted tresses wrapped up her look. So, which outfit of Nandita Das did you
like the most? Let us know that. Happy Birthday, Nandita Das!
