Remember when Kylie's In My Arms came out? That little number by the pop princess - whose Newcastle show last weekend reportedly went down a storm at the arena - entered the top 10

charts this very month 17 years ago. Yes 17 years. Those looking back on nights out on the town back then certainly won't feel they were so long ago and this pick of photos taken around

the city and the Bigg Market back in 2008 don't look it either. They featured at the time in Our Bigg Night Out series which originally ran in the pages of the Chronicle each Friday

from 1992 until 2012. Taken by our photographers, we revive scenes here including a photo towards the end of that May, others through June and some from July nights out too. There also a

snap from the Evolution Festival in June, to show what else was going on in Newcastle at the time. No doubt many people will well remember that once-annual and much-loved music event. As for

music, other artists - besides Kylie - entering the charts that May included Duffy's Warwick Avenue; Coldplay's Violet Hill and Rihanna's Take a Bow - which later hit number

one - then in June there was a re-entry of Mint Royale's 2005 hit Singin' in the Rain after it featured in George Sampson's winning performance in Britain's Got Talent.

That was also a big month for Coldplay whose single Viva la Vida and album of the same name hit number one. Usher and Paul Weller also topped the album charts. July was to see a turn in the

number one spotlight for Dizzee Rascal's "Dance wiv Me", with Calvin Harris and Chrome, while Basshunter returned to the top five with All I Ever Wanted. Films out to tempt

cinema-goers at the time included Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that May followed in June by the likes of Sex and the City and The Incredible Hulk. The big

hit of July was Mamma Mia!
