A RATHER MYSTERIOUS LANDMARK IN RURAL NORTHUMBERLAND HAS MADE IT ONTO A LIST OF THE REGION'S BEST HIDDEN GEMS 12:25, 28 May 2025Updated 12:29, 28 May 2025 When you think of landmarks in

Northumberland, it's very easy for your mind to wander straight to castles or grand stately homes, but there is another attraction off the beaten track that is most definitely worth a

visit. And living up to its 'hidden gem' status, it's a place that can only be accessed on foot. If you're a regular visitor to CHRONICLELIVE, you'll know we cover

Northumberland rather extensively, whether it be for stories on its Hollywood famous castles, award winning pubs and restaurants, stunning walking trails or highly rated beaches. But for the

purposes of this article, we are turning our attention to a place that doesn't get the same amount of attention as some of its neighbours. We're talking about the Duddo Five

Stones, a stone circle made up of five, 4000 year old stones that sit in rural countryside, just short of an hour and a half's drive from Newcastle city centre, not too far from the

UK's 'happiest place to live', Berwick-upon-Tweed or the Scottish border. You also might need to be a keen walker to pay them a visit, as while you can get close by via car,

the only way to see the stones is to trek the 1km walk through fields. The Duddo Five Stones have been rated by Visit Northumberland as one of the best hidden gems to explore in the

Northumberland area. There were actually more stones that formed part of the circle to begin with, but three went missing, before a further stone was added in 1903. JOIN OUR WHATSAPP

well know a tourist attraction as others in the region, the Duddo Five Stones have still attracted plenty of reviews on Trip Advisor and Google, where one visitor urges anyone else planning

on going to take 'supportive boots and sensible jackets.' Their current score on Trip Advisor is an impressive 4.4 out of a possible 5, with one tourist describing them as 'a

remote atmospheric prehistoric site,' adding: 'Anyone interested in stone circles will love this place.' Equally impressed when they went, another said a visit to see the

stones was a 'worthwhile detour' on the way up to Edinburgh. And a third, also giving it a five star rating, enthused: ' The views are breathtaking and the tranquility it

fantastic - a lovely relaxing place for a picnic
