late, great Heath Ledger's life. But after critics accused new film I Am Heath Ledger of 'whitewashing' the actor's dark side, the star's sister Kate Ledger spoke

out to set the record straight. The Perth publicist told The Daily Telegraph she was shocked by claims about her brother's demons, insisting 'he was a really happy person'.

whitewashed'. But Kate claimed comments about Heath's low spirits were overblown and that the pair had been 'laughing and joking' on the phone the night before his death.

'He had huge plans for his future,' she told the publication, asserting that his Oscar-winning role in The Dark Knight didn't make him depressed.  'He was so proud of

what he had done in Batman. And I know he had plans for another Batman,' Kate said. She added: 'He loved working with Chris Nolan and Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. He just had

the best time ever doing that film.' 'When he came home at Christmas he couldn’t wait to tell us all about it and he was doing the voice and laughing, showing me all the

rushes.'  The star's sister also stated that the process of making the documentary had been difficult for their family, with the group turning down a number of filmmakers before it

was made. 'It’s been incredibly emotional for all of us but something that we are extremely proud of and something that I think has been necessary,' Kate said. She explained that

while it had 'given Heath a voice,' their family 'couldn't and wouldn't,' have made the film any earlier.  Despite the 'painful' memories the

documentary brings up about Heath, Kate explained that it was a 'lovely way to embrace his life'. She even helped promote the film at it's debut screening at the Tribeca Film

Festival in late April, serving on a Q&A panel alongside her  sister Ashleigh Bell. While there she also discussed how the gossip surrounding the Australian actor's sudden overdose

death in January 2008 was not justified.  The documentary will hit Australian cinemas for one week only from May 11, with the premiere taking place in Heath's home state of Western

Australia at Perth’s Luna Cinemas on May 9.
