THE DISCOUNT RETAILER HAS UNVEILED ITS 'CUTTING EDGE' AUTOMATED DISTRIBUTION CENTRE JUST OUTSIDE LIVERPOOL WHICH WILL OPERATE 24/7 TO SUPPORT 300 HOME BARGAINS STORES 13:00, 31 May
2025Updated 13:08, 31 May 2025 High Street favourite, Home Bargains has opened a new £400m warehouse holding a treasure trove of items for die-hard fans. The retailer unveiled its
"cutting edge" one-million sqft distribution centre just outside Liverpool - the birthplace of the brand. The St Helen's site will operate "around the clock" to
support 300 Home Bargains stores. Using sophisticated picking technology, it means 80% of the stock picking at the warehouse will be automated. Home Bargains said the development, which
employs 1,000 people, was a “key step” in its ambitious growth strategy and its mission to expand the reach of its stores across the UK, the Retail Gazette reports. Meanwhile, another one
million sqft distribution centre will open in Doncaster next year supplying another 300 stores. The top of the range expansion comes as Home Bargains reported a pre-tax surge in profits to
£454.8m from £336.5m in the year to June 30. Article continues below Sales also rocketed 11% to £4.2bn thanks to new shop openings, relocations and higher sales across the portfolio. Home
Bargains has 617 stores and is set to continue to grow as it targets hundreds more locations across the UK. The news comes after we reported how Home Bargains tycoon Tom Morris continues to
hold the title of the wealthiest Scouser ever, as per the latest Sunday Times rich list. The 2025 list, unveiled earlier this month reveals that Tom Morris and his clan are the third
wealthiest in the North West, boasting a fortune of £6.99bn, placing them 26th on a national level. Regionally, Manchester United co-owner and chemical firm INEOS CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe tops
the list with a whopping £17bn, despite witnessing a £6bn dip over the past year. The Duke of Westminster and the Grosvenor family clinch the second spot with a cool £9.88bn. The discount
chain Home Bargains, which has filled the Morris family's coffers, started from humble beginnings with a single store - then named Home and Bargain - which opened its doors in Old Swan
in 1976. It was the brainchild of a then-21 year old Tom, the offspring of a Scotland Road shopkeeper. The inaugural store kicked off with weekly earnings of less than £100, but the brand,
rebranded as Home Bargains in 1995, has blossomed into a retail giant with over 500 outlets across the UK. Article continues below As his Gillmoss-based firm has expanded, Mr Morris has
earned the distinction of being the richest Liverpudlian in history, with his wealth swelling this year by £316m. He also held this title in last year's Sunday Times rich list. _FOR THE
