On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, Sadhu Vaswani International School of PCMC organized Rakhi making activity in their school. The students from Standard II went to the Paraplegic Rehabilitation
center, Khadki to tie these self-made rakhis to the war injured soldiers and war veterans and also offered them sweets. The event was a field trip for school kids. The children were also
briefed about the role that soldiers and armed forces play in the protection and safety of the nation. Enthralled to see the jawans, probably for the first time, these children expressed
their gratitude to them. The kids also got a chance to ask questions to these soldiers. Many of the questions that came from them were 'How did you get hurt?' and 'Are you
feeling OK now.' Touched by the gestures and conversations of the kids, Col R K Mukherjee, Head of the Rehab Centre, replied to the children, "These soldiers don't need
sympathy for their injuries. They are proud that they did something for the nation. Your visit should inspire you to fight all barriers and keep doing something for yourself and the
country." Principal of Sadhu Vaswani International School, Aarti Patil said, "Even though our kids are small, I am sure that when they grow up, they will remember this visit and
will also realize the importance of these soldiers who help us to live life carefree." Informing why the school kids celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the soldiers, she said, "We need
to teach children out of the text. Moral science, value education, character building comes only with experience. Human values also need to be taught. We live a carefree life as we are well
protected at all borders of our nation. We need to respect and salute them and thank them for what they do for us. We thought this is an appropriate way to celebrate Raksha Bandhan."
Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani, who is recovering from his illness, expressed his happiness about the school kids' gesture and said, "Their words are simple and flow out of the hearts
which know no manipulations."
