Civic body takes over all sources of water in city; decision on alternate day water supply put off till dam storage down to 1 TMC ft The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) declared a water

emergency on Tuesday, but deferred taking any decision on alternate day water supply in the city. The decision was taken following a meeting chaired by district collector Vikas Deshmukh

concerning the water supply to Daund. As per the protocol of the water emergency, the PMC can take over all the water sources in the city. Speaking to DNA over phone, municipal commissioner

Mahesh Pathak said, “The dams supplying water to Pune city have 2 TMC water, so we deferred the decision of alternate day water supply till we have only 1 TMC water in the dam.” “After the

water stock in dam reaches one TMC only then we will prepare a plan for water management. So, presently there is no need of further water cut and supply would continue till the dam water

stock reaches 1 TMC,” Pathak said. He said that during the emergency, all the water bodies like well, borewells and lakes including private ones are under public use.
