A British tourist who vanished in Peru and endured an attack while sleeping rough shared a poignant moment with her friend, telling him "I love you" during an emotional reunion.

Hannah Almond, 32, embraced her friend known only as "Matti" and spoke the touching words upon being found living on the streets of Cusco. Piero Villanueva, a local Good Samaritan,

assisted Matti in finding Hannah, reports the Mirror. After losing touch with her backpacking companions, Hannah had been without a home, money, or passport for several weeks. During this

harrowing time, she was violently assaulted, and her belongings were set alight by thugs. The Grimsby native was overjoyed to see Matti, who had embarked on an urgent journey to find her.

Recounting the reunion, Matti said: "I came straight off the flight, and before I got to my accommodation I got the taxi to drop me off at the main square where she was with her friend.

"She wrapped her arms around me and said 'I love you'. She was wearing superman pajamas given to her by a friend as she has nothing to her name. Minimal clothing, no money,

and no personal items like a phone or passport." Following the devastating fire, Hannah was left with only the clothes on her back. Matti facilitated a meeting between Hannah and some

of her original travel companions, including Mila. Matti described how Mila and Hannah joyfully danced down a street in the city. Matti and Hannah, who met while studying at Leeds Beckett

University, have been reunited in Peru. Speaking to Mail Online, Matti said: "I think she was overwhelmed when I saw her if I'm honest. After some time she has expressed love and

gratitude for me being here. We sat and had a bottle of water and talked about home. She didn't want to eat anything at the time. We have listened to some music that reminded us of

friends and times back in Leeds." Hannah has reportedly contacted her family in Grimsby, and Matti is ensuring his friend receives the necessary help. The graduate travelled to Peru in

March seeking adventure and self-discovery at a yoga retreat. She was robbed and assaulted, losing her passport, phone and all her money, according to a GoFundMe page. Over £7,500 has been

raised, including donations from strangers, which will be used to cover emergency care, food and any additional flights required by Hannah's friends and family. The current travel

advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) warns that several British tourists have been targeted by armed robbers in recent years. It further states: "Personal

attacks, including sexual assaults, are infrequent but do happen, mostly in the Cusco and Arequipa areas." _GET ALL THE LATEST AND BREAKING NEWS IN YORKSHIRE BY __SIGNING UP TO OUR
