The two leaders discussed a trade deal, 5G and global security on the phone earlier today, the White House has confirmed. The pair will also meet at G7 in France later in August. Mr Trump
told Mr Johnson during the call, which took place on Thursday, that he looked forward to meeting him at the G7 economic summit in France later this month, the White House said. A White House
spokesman said: "The President reiterated his strong appreciation for the special relationship between the United States and United Kingdom and noted he is looking forward to meeting
with the Prime Minister at the G7 Summit in Biarritz, France later this month." The US is currently pressuring countires, including the UK, to stop using equipment from the Chinese
telecommunications company Huawei in its 5G mobile networks. The US says Huawei a national security risk. The UK’s national security council, which is chaired by former Prime Minister
Theresa May, said Huawei could get limited acess to sensitive parts of the 5G network. But the council has yet to make a final decision. Mr Johnson has a far better working relationship with
President Trump than Mrs May did. Mr Trump also said last week that a “very substantial” US-British trade deal was under discussion. The two leaders have spoken before while Mr Johnson was
Foreign Secretary. Mr Trump has regularly spoken wth high praise about Mr Johnson. After he won the Conservative leadership vote, Mr Trump told a rally: “We have a really good man who’s
going to be the prime minister … They’re saying Britain Trump … "They like me over there. That’s what they wanted. “Boris is good, he’s going to do a good job.” President Trump was one
the first to congratulate Mr Johnson for his new role as Prime Minister, which he scooped a week ago. Mr Johnson stormed into the position as leader of the Conservative Party. He culled Mrs
May’s Remainer Cabinet and had several bruising phone calls with EU leaders Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel, that saw him lay down the law on the backstop. Today’s call with President
Trump was a more positive conversation, used to discuss the "unparalleled" opportunities Brexit will bring, the Sun Online reports.
